Unveiling Faces

Every face tells a story. What we have weathered comes through in our countenance, revealing our deepest fears, our greatest victories, our darkest valleys. With tender mercy, Jesus removes the veil of self-protection, comes face to face with all that we are, and transforms us into his radiant goodness. Though this work is not complete until he comes again, it is already in motion—as we walk with him, adore him, and imitate his ways. In this long journey, Jesus is going after “second-order change,” restoring shalom to our souls and restoring the Edenic secure attachment for which we were designed. As we await full transformation into Christ’s image, already we can begin to imitate him by walking in his three offices: priest, prophet, and king/queens The priests among us tell the story of God and help people locate them-selves within it. Prophets reveal truth that arouses the heart to redemption and restoration within the tension of the already-and-not-yet. And kings/queens clear the chaos, restore order, and create space for the flourishing of the kingdom through the work of the church.
