Walk In The Light

In prayer this week, 1 John 1 came to David’s heart and he saw “that there were many that had been staring out into a dark landscape, and you can't see anything really well. And the Lord was causing a new light to shine out of our congregation—and suddenly you were going to be able to see all around you what was real, what was good, what God was up to.” This is what God does: he is the light; he shines light into our hearts; and he empowers us to walk in the light. Walking in the light means acknowledging before God and before man that we don’t have what it takes. Through the Old Testament, we learn that we can’t walk in righteousness apart from dependency upon God. But when Christ comes, he shows us how to walk in righteousness. Jesus himself is the way to life, righteousness, and salvation—and this life comes by believing in him. A sign that we believe in him is that we walk in the light: in sincerity and transparency with God and others. Instead of hiding from one another and faking our Christianity, through Christ, we are freed from shame and released into an open honesty about our hearts.
